Lisa gave a moment of silence in memory of the unnamed baby, whose body was found in a NJ river, but, who was supposed to have been buried in Stamford in 2007. Lisa also commented about the poisoning of three Fox kits (babies) in the Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk. And the utility companies who kill monk parakeets. There lives are constantly in danger due to the wires and telephone poles that are very hazardous to them.It angers Lisa that it is left up to innocent animals to stay clear of the dangers we as humans created. We have infiltrated their areas with the growth of cities and they have no place else to go. Lisa speaks out against some members of Fairfield County who want to allow deer hunting in our public parks. There is a big chance that a child or dog could get hurt or killed. A few years back in Weston when they still allowed hunting in that area, someone had shot at something and it went into someone’s house and grazed the top of a crib. Do we really want to take such a chance? Lisa also argues against the argument that if we thin out the deer population it will thin out the amount of Lyme Disease there is. Yet, this is simply not true. Lyme disease is caused by tics which are on mice, grass, dogs, yes they also travel on deer, but we are not going eliminate Lyme Disease by eliminating or thinning the deer herds. She has gotten in touch with Dara Reid of Wildlifeincrisis.org. She said deer are one of the few animals they have had poor luck rehabilitating for they fight against the help they try to give them.A G8 industrialized nations summit is going on in Italy. They agreed that temperatures should not be going up more than 2 degrees Celsius or 4 degrees Fahrenheit. However, although they share a common goal, they do not agree on its execution. For instance, if the average temperature is 70 it shouldn’t go up to more than 74 degrees. The people that are going to cause the pollution in the next 20 or 30 years, China, India and Brazil are not part of the G8 countries but part of the G17 nations and they don’t meet until Thursday, tomorrow, to discuss what they are willing or not willing to do. The number of emergency room injuries caused by computer accidents has escalated and especially with children under five. Computers have sharp edges, wires can be electrical or tripping hazards, and computer chairs are too big providing opportunities for falls. Lisa feels that computers have also harmed children, who are extremely impressionable and are now spending way to much time in front of the computer, causing them to become too alienated and not as social with other people. For the first time more people strongly disapprove (37%) of President Obama than approve (32%). However, over all the President still has a 58% approval rating according to Gallop; and Rasmussen reports only 53% approval rating overall which doesn’t quite match what he had in the popular vote last November. Read the story in this month’s Vanity Fair about Sarah Palin. The government exists basically as a pragmatic establishment to avoid chaos and concentrate on common goals like defense. Yet our government has lately overstepped its boundries. How did we grant our government permission to regulate our food, medicines, and other aspects of our lives from birth until death. President Obama has shown as a leader an inclination to want to invest a lot of power into a centralized government. Does the public realize what such centralized power could lead to? Although our 6th Amendment to the Constitution (Bill of Rights) guarantees a right to trial by jury; most people don’t get jury trials, something like point 2 of a point 2% get one. In two states a jury may not (have to) be unanimous. Lisa thinks our idea of a jury system is when everybody agrees and if there is reasonable doubt it’s a hung jury and maybe grounds for a re-trial.
