Lisa had an eclectic evening in talking about the news today. The summer Olympics Committee meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark will be lobbied by worldly notables, including the Obamas and Oprah. Chicago and Rio de Janeiro are in the running. Polls show that Chicagoans are split with 50% wanting their city to win and the other 50% opposing it because there would be (inevitable) cost overruns in construction for the preparation.

Iran boasted that new sanctions on its nation would not hurt as they defended their right to enrich uranium. In Geneva today they met with several of the major industrialized countries, including the US, France, and Germany. Iran claims that they are using the uranium for atomic energy only. Lisa wants to know why, if everything is so peaceful purposes anyway, they didn't disclose the existence of this facil ity to the International Atomic Energy Association in the first place, until it was found by others to be concealed.

Lisa was annoyed about Michael Vick signing a contract with Nike shoes and getting paid any money to endorse any products.

Lisa revealed that former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright would wear certain pins on her clothes to indicate what mood she was in that particular day.

Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota has started a Pac to raise money. Usually this indicates someone wants to (eventually) run for the Presidency. Lisa interviewed him about a year ago, wh en, at the time he was being named as a possible vice-presidential nominee candidate to be chosen by John McCain. Lisa didn’t see any charisma in Pawlenty that day. In all fairness, it was a long day and he was tired, but she wasn’t impressed. Ironically, the other guy who is gunning for the Republican nominee is Charlie Crist, who is the governor of Florida. Charlie is married to Lisa's sister Jill's good friend, Carol.

A sciencedaily.com report out of Britain says that children who eat sweets and chocolate every day are more likely to be violent as adults. A study of almost 17,500 participants in the 1970’s found that children who ate confectionary daily were significantly more likely to have been convicted for violence at age 34. It was the first (study) to examine the long term effects of childhood diet on adult violence.

Lisa doesn’t agree, otherwise she'd be pretty violent herself, as a regular chocolate- eater. On the other hand, she thinks soda is not good to drink by kids, because it does not have any nutritional value.

Lisa is also outraged about the Hollywood support for Roman Polanski. Even though Polanski is a classic success story with a tragic life, he ran away from a guilty plea here in the US and fled to France. Lisa believes all the famous people who support him don’t get it; he had already admitted to the crime and should serve his time.

Lisa’s top ics were health and the newly proposed national health care bill.. Just 41% of voters nationwide favor the health care reform proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. Senior citizens surveyed are less supportive of the plan with 33% in favor and 59% opposed with those over 65 strongly opposed at 46%.

The Senate Finance Committee voted to kill a public insurance plan that would compete with private insurers, with a vote of 15 to 8.

A law says that doctors, hospitals and other health care providers must create an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for every American by 2014 or else face deductions in their Medicare payments. The EHR’s are supposed to be integrated into a national health care IT system where health-care providers nationwide as well as the government would have the ability to access them when authorized!

There is a section of the Health Care reform bill that requires the Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to “develop standards for the measurement of gender” as opposed t o simply relying on “male and female” for use in a new federal database that will collect information about all beneficiaries of government-run or supported health care programs. Sebelius has “no idea” about it.

Lisa’s guest was Dr. Pamela Peeke, who lives in Maryland, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, and is adjunct senior scientist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Her research has focused on the relationship between chronic stress and overeating. A national bestseller, Fight Fat After Forty, was published in 2001, and she continues to bring this topic to the forefront nationally in magazine articles, television and radio appearances. Dr. Peeke’s most recent book is Fit to Live which challenges readers to have a wellness in their life using mental, nutritional, physical, financial and environmental aspects.
