The Lisa Wexler Show Recap: Tuesday December 1, 2009

Lisa was listening to President Barak Obama along with you on her radio show for approximately the first 15 minutes or so tonight. Then she spoke of her thoughts about his speech. Lisa feels that the President made the (arbitrary) date of leaving Afghanistan in July of 2011 just in time for him to run a reelection campaign. Lisa wants to know, when’s the last time anybody entered a war and knew when the end date was? If we are in a war that we are already saying we will be leaving in two years, explain to me, what are we doing there? How do we know we will eradicate all of them (the cancer of this Islamic fundamentalism) in your two year time table? In the last 100 years no one has been able to effectively transfer power to Afghanistan so they could self rule. The President didn’t even address the fact that Afghanistan if a highly de-centralized country, it is a country that does not rule on democratic principles, it rules on basic tribal principles; did not address the way they rule based on tribal relationships, dictatorial rules, favors, bribery, we would call it corruption, they would call it an every day way of doing business.

After the break, Lisa talked more about the problems interrelated with this war, and the why and wherefore about this Afghanistan conflict. Lisa feels that when we pull out the world wide enemy will take over the Afghan government anyway. This enemy is a world wide movement. It’s a spiritual, religious, zealotry, fanatic movement. It doesn’t know boundaries; it doesn’t respect women, it hates Jews, it hates western thought, it hates America, it hates Britain, and its insinuated itself in every corner of Western Europe.

It was notably omitted; at least in the time Lisa listened to his speech, the President didn’t make one reference to the Ft Hood massacre of just a couple weeks ago, by an Islamic, fundamentalist, home grown terrorist. If we don’t begin to address what that was all about, what are we doing in Afghanistan? Lisa doesn’t know if this is the best way to fight an enemy, by giving an end date to this war. Something needs to change; something else needs to be done about these warmongering people.
