Lisa told the story of a young woman, Victoria Hope (26) of Shelton, CT, who bled to death while giving birth to 3 still born babies, apparently earlier than expected. She already had 2 children and was very involved in her their lives. In this day and age it is a travesty that something like this should happen. She was not under a doctor’s (prenatal) care, however, and did not inform anyone that she was pregnant.
An article in yesterday’s front page of the NY Times had a story about debarking in dogs. Vets will cut their vocal chords when people find themselves in a quandary if neighbors complain about their dogs barking. Lisa feels it should be Illegal and considered cruelty to animals. How is a dog supposed to bark and communicate to you of danger? Lisa would sooner sound proof her house rather than do that to a dog. She thinks it is unspeakably cruel.
Lisa’s studio guest, Samantha Heller, a Registered Dietician and author of “Get Smart, Nutrition Prescription for Boosting Brain Power and Optimizing Total Body Health” Samantha hosts her own radio show on SiriusXM. Through her research she believes that certain foods stave off dementia. There are good and bad fats, our brain is made up of 2/3 of fat. Animal saturated fat and coconut oil are not good for you. Lower non-fat cheeses like part skim mozzarella is okay to eat. Cholesterol and saturated fat are dif, sat not as good as cholesterol fat. Man made fat fry at high transfats are not good for you. things that are deep fried generally not good for you. The western diet based on human studies, is increasing our risk for many diseases. She suggests that people lower the amount of fat you eat, by reducing the amount of red meat and eat lean meat and other low fat products.
Lisa spoke with Dr. Stuart Busell a physician at Danbury CT Hospital and who was written about in an article in the Wall St Journal a physician at Danbury Hospital. Colorectal risk calculator takes into account their health problems as result look at wound infection rates and blood clot rates to outline the risk of death and other risk factors, there are 15 variables in this surgery, some of which are the extent of surgery, age is an issue, smoking is a factor, high blood pressure, is this an emergency case. It is a preventable cancer and Preventative care is a colonoscopy, starting at age 50 and every few years. If family has a history you should have it starting at age 40.
Lisa talked about the Toyota confusion and trouble happening. Lisa has a Prius and is very happy with it. But some models have a problem with the gas pedal sticking. The problem may have started when they went from a mechanical to a computerized engineered electromagnetic program to accelerate the car. Some believe it may have something to do with cell phone electromagnetic interference because of the way it was designed by the engineers at Toyota and this has not been investigated. There are class action law suits against Toyota. To make the car lighter to get better gas mileage Toyota’s electronic throttle system may be at fault. Lisa believes we are so reliant on computers, no one knows how to do anything (mechanical) anymore.
Google approached the NSA (National Security Agency) with a way of teaming up that would allow them to share information; if you don’t think Big Brother isn’t here already, wake up, and smell the coffee. Sweden balked at this in principal.
The House voted to raise the national debt ceiling on Thursday. Lisa will ask Jim Himes what he thinks of this on Monday when he comes on the show.
Lisa said that John Boehner (R-Ohio) gets the Tin Ear (award).
